Starting fresh…
What began as a record of work-related technological experiences has finally begun its transformation into the fabulous blog it was meant to be. Like an ugly duckling becoming a beautiful swan, the ultimate goal is for these musings are to celebrate the truly fabulousness of whatever life you’ve got. I’ve always wanted an avenue to share my writing and this blog will now be that opportunity. My journey into writing began when I was about three and I penned my first book, entitled the “Book of Love” for my mother. A simple paged book filled with greeting card cut-outs and girly hearts, the masterpiece was far from great writing but we’ve all got to start somewhere. Through the years, my love for books and writing continue to grow and eventually led to the pursuit of my BA in English and Written Communication. After a year at a mediocre job as a copy editor, I finally landed what I thought was my dream job as a bureau reporter for a well-known local paper. (It wasn’t the Times but it was definitely the “big” paper for our area.) A few years and tears later, I decided that chasing down the story wasn’t really the gig for me. While the pursuit of the story was often exciting, the downsides of unpredictable schedules, horrific crime scenes and inappropriately-timed interviews made my decision a little easier. Returning to my first love of books, I began a job at a local public library and decided to return to school for my MLS (Masters of Library Science). Now just three years later, I am finally done with school and working two part-time reference librarian shifts at both a local public and community college library. But just when you think things are settling in nice, life throws you a curve ball and everything changes. Without going into too many specifics, my hubby and I were offered his dream business opportunity that we could really turn down. While it may not be the exact path I would have chosen, we are hoping the hard work of small-business operation will pay off. It’s only been a few months and the transition is slowing beginning to smooth out. The part-time librarian positions allow me to keep my hand in the field while I pursue the American dream full-time. This does make for a very busy schedule that often includes a seven-day workweek. But instead of dwelling on the downsides, it’s time to look at the positive. This blog is going to be a celebration of what this crazy journey through life is – the unexpected delights that create the best memories and help us remember why we’re here.
