Love, Paint and Yoga

For Valentine’s Day this year, my hubby and I decided to forgo the typical flowers and gifts and instead spend the day together. We did treat ourselves to a wonderful dinner at an Italian restaurant a few towns over. The atmosphere was very unique and romantic – stone wall detailing with a wood fire. Then after our bellies were full, we decided to tackle one of our home renovation projects we’ve been putting off – painting our kitchen. The kitchen was in great shape when we bought the house. In fact, it was probably the main reason we bought it. It is very open and bright with nice cabinet space and tons of counter space. It was painted white so it allowed us some time as it wasn’t glaringly obnoxious like some of the other rooms. We decided on a nice light brown shade called Zanzibar Spice. To me, it looks like a combination between chocolate milk and coffee with cream. With a President’s Day holiday on Monday, we had an extra day to spend working on the room and now only have to finish rearranging what we had to pack up. I think it looks fab and will definitely post some pics when everything is back in place.
Since we bought our house in 2006, we’ve done a lot of home projects including a new two stall, two-story garage, renovated entry way/front porch, renovating the small useless “library” room into an open dining/family room, hardwood floors, swimming pool, new concrete driveway and sidewalk. In addition, we’ve now painted six out of the eight rooms in the house. Our next plan is to convert the upstairs “loft” bedroom into a full room. This will entail changing the loft wall into a full wall, replacing the carpet and of course, more paint.
Of course, what home renovation isn’t complete without a little sore muscle or injury? No, I didn’t fall off the ladder or get paint in my eye. We were leaving Lowes after running out of painter’s tape (my husband never can complete a project without at least 5 trips to some home improvement store) and I completely wiped out on my bottom. In the half-hour we were in the story, it had gotten super icy and I guess I didn’t realize it. No major injuries but a very sore tailbone/back and hands/wrists. I am hoping my new yoga class tonight should help a little. I am trying to focus on relaxing more and the yoga class last week was a perfect addition to my weekly schedule. It is good for my body, mind and soul. Later this week, it’s book club time. This month, we’re reading The Girls from Ames. So far, it’s very good. More to come on this later in the week.
Until next time,
Fabulous KT
