Flickr and more...

So today, I completed my second Webbie 2.0 class on Flickr. While I had never used this particular program, I have used other similar photosharing sites. Although it can be frustrating at first when learning something new, I am amazed each and everytime by the emerging technology. Check out my pictures of our libary. http://www.flickr.com/photos/ilionpubliclibrary/sets/72157600191723455/

Perhaps it is my age or my experiences, but I find most of these new social networking tools a crucial part of our future. The world is changing. As we all know -- or will soon realize -- globalization has 'flattened' everything from the products we use to how we gather our information. We can't be scared of the unknown lurking on the Internet ... instead we need to focus on using these tools in a responsible, benefitial way for all.

The pictures of your library are wonderful. I enjoyed reading your ideas about working with teens. It is always a challenge to engage the young adult population. It seems like we lose our young library users rapidly once they get to grade 6 or 7 and then it's very difficult to get them back. Better to find find ways to keep them than to lose them in the first place. Good luch with it!
